Department of Physiology

PHYSIOLOGY

The Department of Physiology plays an important role in laying a strong foundation to medical and para-medical training courses offered by the Institution. Besides training undergraduates and postgraduates in the medical, dental, physiotherapy & nursing streams, the department also trains undergraduates in audiology & speech pathology and the medical laboratory technology courses. The Department believes in an integrated student-centered learning philosophy and promotes small group discussions and tutorials in addition to the traditional methods.

FacultyThe Department houses spacious laboratories for teaching practical courses in Hematology, Human physiology, Clinical physiology as well as Amphibian and Mammalian physiology. The Department of Physiology has a course website through which students can access lecture handouts, advance announcements and discussions forums.

Research activities

The Department encourages involvement of students in research activities and has successfully participated in The ICMR Student Research Scheme. The Departmental Research Laboratory has developed facilities to perform Autonomic Function Tests including Heart Rate Variability, galvanic skin resistance studies and Computerized Pulmonary Function Tests. It is also equipped with a two channel physiograph, bicycle ergometer, animal stereotaxy and a radial arm maze.
