DEPARTMENT OF BIOCHEMISTRY
The department trains both undergraduate and postgraduate students of the medical and dental sciences. It also trains the undergraduates of all paramedical sciences.
The undergraduate program for MBBS is for 12 months. Undergraduates are trained to acquire knowledge to integrate molecular events with structure and function of the human body in health and disease. They are also exposed to basic practical skills required in biochemical investigations in order to support clinical diagnosis of common disorders in the community.
The post graduate course of biochemistry (MD Biochemistry) involves regular journal clubs, seminars, microteaching, research work and clinical laboratory practice.
Facilities
The department consists of fully equipped students practical laboratory, research laboratory, clinical laboratory. Department also has two demonstration rooms and departmental library with all standard reference books.
Practice of small group teaching, problem based learning and OSPE is carried out in addition to pedagogic teaching. The lecture notes are updated regularly in the Nulearn website.
Clinical services
The Department of Clinical Biochemistry offers diagnostic support to the physicians and surgeons to provide a good clinical service round the clock. The laboratory is equipped with modern instrument such as fully automated chemistry analyser, fully automated immuno analyser, semi autoanalyser, electrophoresis unit and electrolyte analyser which are operated by skilled technicians. Internal and external Quality Control are being carried out regularly to ensure good quality results.
Community services
Laboratory technical staffs are involved in the medical camps (diabetic and kidney disease screening) and blood donation camps.
