DEPARTMENT OF PAEDIATRICS

The Department of Paediatrics was started in 1999 in KSHEMA. Under Graduate programme was started in 1999 and MD in 2006. The Department provides undergraduate training in the Medical (MBBS), Physiotherapy (BPT) and Nursing (B.Sc, M.Sc) streams.

The Department runs an observership course for PG Students doing MDS in PedodonticsandMaxilloFacialSurgery. The Department is also involved in guiding the students of the interdisciplinary doctoral (PhD) offered by Nitte (Deemed to be University).

N-SPECC (nitte - special child care) for physically and mentally challenged children

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has 12 beds and is fully equipped with the following:
  • Warmers, Incubators & Cardiac monitors
  • Pulse Oxymeters
  • Latest Phototherapy units
  • Ventilator – 2
  • Bubble CPAP - 1

The High Dependency Unit HDU has 5 beds in the ward and is equipped with pulseoxymeters and electronic monitors

The Pediatric Intensive care Unit (PICU) has 4 beds and is equipped with the following:
  • 4 multi-parameter monitors
  • 1 ventilator
  • Infusion Pumps
  • Defibrillator.

Hegde Medical Academy, has won Second place in the poster competition for his poster titled“Initial presentation of neuroblastoma with skull secondaries : a rare presentation“  at National level poster presentation held during the First Mangalore Pedicon& Dr. M. R. Shenoy Oration - 2016 on 12th March 2016 at A J Institute of Medical Sciences, Mangalore, Karnataka.
  • Doddabasava, Second year post graduate student,Department of Paediatrics, K. S. Hegde Medical Academy, has won Second place in the poster competition for paper (Oral) titled “Echocardiographic Assessment in Infants Born to Diabetic Mothers” “Echocardiographic Assessment in Infants Born to Diabetic Mothers” at Dr. B ShantaramBaliga National level oral paper presentation held during the First Mangalore Pedicon& Dr. M.   • Dr Seema Pavaman S., Assoc. Professor , Department of Paediatrics, K. S. Hegde Medical Academy, has won “IIIrd prize for the free paper (e-poster) titled on “Influence of Maternal Bidi Rolling and Tobacco Exposure Status on Intra uterine Growth, Birth Weight and Outcome - A Prospective Cohort Study”at 54th national Conference of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (Pedicon 2017) on 20th January 2017 at Gayathri Vihar, Palace Ground Bengaluru.
