About K.S. Hegde Medical Academy
Established in 1999, K.S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA) became a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University) in 2009. The Institution is named after its founder, the visionary, Late Justice K S Hegde, former Judge of the Supreme Court of India and Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
The Institution has made rapid progress towards being recognized as a medical school with high academic standards, delivering quality health care with an emphasis on promoting social responsibility in its students. In alignment with the vision and mission of Nitte (Deemed to be University), K.S Hegde Medical Academy strives to generate competent and humane professionals empowered to face future challenges with ethical integrity.
Academic Programs
The Institution offers MBBS, MD/MS and MCh programs recognized by the Medical Council of India. Besides this, it offers B.Sc courses in Medical Imaging Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology, Respiratory Therapy, Master's program in Public Health, Medical Imaging Technology, Medical Laboratory Technology, Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology, Respiratory Therapy and Hospital Administration. Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, the NABH Accredited 1200 bed super-speciality hospital attached to the Institution serves as a teaching hospital for all the affiliated courses and provides all levels of holistic health care including major super-speciality services and provides excellent training opportunities to the students of the academy.

The Institution has demonstrated a commitment to develop an active research program with the development of state-of the art Central Research Laboratory and has successfully generated substantial support from external funding agencies. The Institution has collaborations and research linkages with international and national organizations like the Wake Forest University, USA, University of Toronto, Canada, BARC Research Centre, Mangalore University, India and St. John's Research Institute, India. Both undergraduate and post-graduate students are encouraged to participate in research activities.
