Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care medicine at K.S Hegde Medical Academy is committed in providing quality perioperative anaesthetic care to all surgical fields including super speciality, endoscopy, radiology suits, emergency services and providing critical care service in ICU round the clock. The Department runs 20 bedded multidisciplinary intensive care unit, a preoperative assessment clinic, post-operative care unit and pain clinic. The Department aims to set high standards in patient care and medical education with well equipped modern facilities such as state of the art anaesthesia work stations, monitoring devices, ultrasound and ventilators. The Department engages in teaching MBBS, MD Anaesthesiology courses, BDS, Nursing, as well as, runs BSc AOTT and MSc AOTT courses. The Department disseminates knowledge and skill by conducting various academic programmes like conferences, CME and workshops at national and local levels. With actively involving in human simulator and skill development lab, the Department regularly conducts CPR training for medical, paramedical personnel and the general public. The Department is a recognised training centre for difficult airway management and has hands-on- training programme in fiber-optic intubation.
The Department has a special interest in the field of difficult airway management, ultrasound guided nerve blocks and pain management. The Department has made large contribution in forming the difficult airway guidelines framed by the All India Difficult Airway Association.
