Workshop titled "An Outlook on Child Rights and Acts"

The Departments of Psychiatry and Pediatrics, KSHEMA jointly conducted a workshop titled "An Outlook on Child Rights and Acts" on 3rd September 2021. The objective of the programme was to get an understanding of the Acts related to Child Rights. The Workshop focused on Acts such as Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO Act 2012), Juvenile Justice Act 2015 (J J Act), Adoption Act and legal issues associated with adoption.
The Workshop was inaugurated by Dr Shrinivasa Bhat U, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry, where he discussed problems associated with children and the need to understand laws protecting child rights. He then introduced the moderator of the session Dr Aby Dany Varghese, Associate Professor, Department of Pediatrics.
Dr Varghese spoke briefly about his experience in child rights, introduced the resource person Mr Nikhesh Shetty, Advocate and Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and handed over the session to him.
The Workshop began with a pre-test questionnaire, followed by an explanation of the various Child Rights Acts along with case vignettes and examples. He concluded his session with a post-test concerning the topic covered, to understand the knowledge gained by the participants and overcome confusion.
Participants included faculty and postgraduate students from the Departments of Gynaecology & Obstetrics and Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry.
The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Agneita Aiman, Faculty, Psychiatric Social Work. Ms Suman Pinto, Counsellor, Department of Psychiatry hosted the program.
